Stout's Hotel was constructed on a Henry Trost design to serve the railroad traffic and the burgeoning highway traffic. The sign, most of it still in place, announces that the hotel has refrigeration and steam heat. For travellers arriving by Model T at 25 mph across the desert, refrigeration was the more attractive. The hotel closed with the decline in railway traffic in 1985. The vacancy sign is still accurate.
