Spätgotische Hallenkirche, 15. Jahrhundert, Turm mit barockem Kuppelhelm. 43 Meter hoch. Auf dem höchsten Punkt der Altstadt (270 Meter) steht das herrliche Gotteshaus, eine Mischung aus Basilika und Hallenkirche, im Grundriss unsymmetrisch. An Stelle der heutigen Kirche stand ein spätromanisch-frühgotischer Bau, der wohl ins erste Drittel des 13. Jahrhunderts zurückreichte, denn im Jahr 1232 wurde Ebern zur Pfarrei erhoben.
Unter dem großen Stadtbrand 1430 hatte diese Kirche schwer gelitten. Mit dem Neubau wurde 1460 begonnen, der dann in der heutigen Form 1491 vollendet wurde. Mehrmals in den letzten Jahrzehnten wurde der Altarraum umgestaltet. Über dem Haupteingang an der Westseite blickt der hl. Laurentius, der Namenspatron der Kirche und Schutzpatron der Stadt, auf den Besucher herab.

Late Gothic hall church, 15th century, tower with baroque domed helmet. 43 meters high. On the highest point of the old town (270 meters) stands the magnificent church, a mixture of basilica and hall church, unbalanced in plan. In place of today's church stood a late Romanesque early Gothic building, which probably dates back to the first third of the 13th century, because in 1232 Ebern was raised to parish.
Under the great city fire of 1430 this church had suffered severely. The new building was begun in 1460, which was then completed in its present form in 1491. Several times in recent decades, the sanctuary has been redesigned. Above the main entrance on the west side looks the hl. Laurentius, the patron saint of the church and patron saint of the city, down to the visitor.
