Ces deux tours faisaient partie du fort construit à la fin du XVIIe siècle par M. de Belmont pour les Sulpiciens chargés de la Mission des Indiens chrétiens, voisine de Notre-Dame-des-Neiges. Incendiée en 1694, elle fut transportée d'abord au Sault-au-Récollet, et finalement au Lac-des-Deux- Montagnes. Partie du Fort des Messieurs demeura en place jusque vers 1840 alors qu'il fut rasé pour l'érection du Collège de Montréal, moins ces deux tours, seuls témoins de ce passé. Celle de l'ouest servit d'école à Marguerite Bourgeoys et l'autre, de logement pour les filles de la Congrégation.

These two towers were once the bastions of a fort built at the end of the 17th century by M. de Belmont for the Sulpicians of the neighbouring Indian mission of Notre-Dame-des-Neiges. The mission, which burnt in 1694, was removed to the Sault-au-Récollet and later to the lac des Deux- Montagnes. Much of the original fort survived well into the 19th century, when it was replaced by the Collège de Montréal. Of the remains, the west tower housed the Indian school of Marguerite Bourgeoys, and the east tower, the nuns of the Congregation.
