Ubon Ratchathani borders Laos, 600 kilometres north-east of Bangkok. It is a larger city, ~200,000 people. In the city centre, surrounded by civic buildings and instrumentalities, is the city park. Approximately, 250 metres per side, it is square in shape. The central area is for public gatherings and exercise. There are other facilities: running track, exercise equipment, children's playground, and seating. In the cool early mornings and late afternoons the park is busy with people.
There is also a statue (shrine) to the founder of the city: Thao Kham Phong. The waymark is the western, main entrance to the park.
