Die Radspitze bot sich wegen ihrer Höhe von 678 m seit jeher als strategisch wichtiger Punkt an, von welchem aus insbesondere das Tal von Stadtsteinach bis Kronach beobachtet und kontrolliert werden konnte. Im Jahr 1859 wurde die Bergspitze zum „Hauptdreiecksnetzpunkt erster Ordnung“ durch das damalige Königlich-Bayerische Katasteramt erklärt und ein mächtiges hölzernes „Signal“ errichtet. Dieses Vermessungsgerüst fiel aber bald der Witterung zum Opfer. Im Jahr 2000 wurde der Radspitzturm renoviert und mit einer neuen Blitzschutzanlage versehen. Heute eignet sich die Radspitze mit ihrem Aussichtsturm als Wanderziel für kurze (ca. 1,5 km) und längere (ca.13 km) Touren.

Because of its height of 678 m, the 'Radspitze' has always been a strategically important point, from which in particular the valley from Stadtsteinach to Kronach could be observed and controlled. In 1859, the mountain peak was declared the "main triangle network point of first order" by the then Royal Bavarian Cadastre Office and built a powerful wooden "signal". However, this survey scaffold soon fell victim to the weather. In 2000 the Radspitz tower was renovated and equipped with a new lightning protection system. Today, the Radspitze with its look-out tower as a hiking destination for short (about 1.5 km) and longer (about 13 km) tours.
