The sandstone Post Office and residence was built in 1880, at a time when Wilcannia was one of the largest inland river ports in Australia. The Post Office is in the Victorian neo-classical style and the residence has an unusual combination of fretwork and cast iron lace and is currently (October 2018) undergoing restoration
The Post Office ceased operations in 1998 and an LPO operated out of the nearby petrol station. In 2013, the council agreed to take over the running of the Post Office and relocated it back into the original building
