The marker reads:

(cross) St. James Catholic School
Occupied in 1850, the school has been in continuous
longer than any school in the state of Texas.

Originally known as Guadalupe High School, the
school name was changed to St. Joseph Catholic
School in 1878 when the Sisters of Charity of the
Incarnate Word purchased the building. In 1968 the
school's name was formally changed to St. James
Catholic School in order to be more easily associated
with the St. James Catholic Church.

The generations of students who have attended this
historic school have, and will continue to receive, an
education of high academic standards and strong
Christian morals and values.

These small, two-foot tall, statues of St. James and St. Joseph are located in an outdoor display area of St. James Catholic School. The display is made of concrete and whitewashed. The base is a large circle, with the the letters "SJS" (for St. James School) on the front. There are a pair of steps on either side of the base to allow access to the interior of the display. The statue stands within a clamshell that is lighted. There is an area between the front of clamshell and the rest of the base that has been filled with mulch. The marker is located on the front of the clamshell along with the dedication plaques to the statues.

The statue of Saint James is of an unknown material - could possibly be porcelain. It is fully painted. Saint James is depicted as a balding man, with short hair, and graying beard. His right hand is held close to his body and his left hand is outstretched. He is depicted in a red outer robe with purple and gold trim, and a green inner robe with gold trim, and sandals.

A marker under the statue reads:

St. James
Apostle, Patron of Laborers
Feast Day, July 25
In Memory of
Charles & Josephine Maurer and
Arthur & Adleen Bendt Families

The statue of Saint Joseph is of an unknown material - could possibly be porcelain. It is fully painted. St. Joseph is depicted carrying the child Jesus Christ. St. Joseph is bearded, with long hair, wearing red outer robes, blue inner robes, and sandals. Jesus is depicted in white robes.

A marker under the statue reads:

Feast Day, March 19
In Memory of
