A British Chieftain Main Battle Tank sits on display in the parking lot of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 165 in Fort McMurray. Currently named "ANGALENA", it was formerly named MELISSA (see photos at silverhawkauthor.com/armoured-fighting-vehicles-and-tanks-preserved-in-canada-2-alberta_432.html).
The history of this tank is unknown. It seems that it was purchased from England in 1996 by a local collector (Jack Cross) and that it is still operational, being used in local parades and making appearances at special events (visit link) . The identifier "11-FD-74" is found on the back. Amazingly this tank and the adjacent Legion building appear to have survived the devastating Fort McMurray fire of 2016 as well as earlier flooding of the Waterways area of the city; it is possible that the tank was driven away from the area to avoid damage during those events.
