This particular configuration, while not unique, isn't very common, where a sphere is atop the monument. The family name, "Hurley", is on the plinth, and below the Woodmen of the World emblem is:

W.H. Hurley

Born
Dec. 23, 1861.

Died
Aug. 1, 1900.

Erected by the
Woodmen of the World
Magnolia Camp No. 431.
McKinney Tex.

On the reverse of the plinth is this epitaph:

Tis ours to miss thee, all our years
And tender memories of thee keep
Thine in the Lord to rest, for so,
He giveth His beloved sleep.
Was the inscription legible?: Yes
