Die Bayerische Zugspitzbahn ist unterteilt in eine Reibungs-bahn und eine Zahnradstrecke. Auf der Reibungsbahn zwischen Garmisch-Partenkirchen und Grainau verkehrte die Tallokomotive. Sie konnte bis .gifinau bis zu sechs Wagen in einem Zug befördern und er-reichte dabei eine Geschwindigkeit von 40 bis 50 km/h.
In Grainau wurden die Züge geteilt und mit einer Geschwindigkeit von 9 km/h von einer Zahnradlokomotive zunächst bis zum Eibsee geschoben und von da aus zum Schneeferner-Haus weiterbefördert. Für die ersten Betriebsjahre wurden 8 Zahnradlokomotiven und 4 Tallokomotiven beschafft. Die Lokomotiven 3 und 11 waren bis 2007 im Betrieb der Zugspitzbahn eingesetzt.

The Bavarian Zugspitzbahn is divided into a friction track and a gear path. On the friction railway between Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Grainau the Tallokomotive reversed. She was able to transport up to six cars in one go to reach .gifinau, achieving a speed of 40 to 50 km / h.
In Grainau the trains were divided and pushed at a speed of 9 km / h from a cogwheel locomotive first to the Eibsee and from there forwarded to the Schneeferner-Haus.
