The Trans Pennine Trail is a national trail that crosses the UK from Southport to Hornsea. The trail is a combined cycle way, footpath and bridle path for horses. It makes use of many river path, canals, converted railways and other paths wherever possible. At this point it is following the route of the River Tame.

The bridge gives access to the trail from either Turner Lane or Lambeth Grove on the south side of the river.
