The grave of Elias Coomes, who was killed during the Civil War at the Battle of Fair Oaks, VA, is located in Longmeadow Cemetery at 34 Williams Street, Longmeadow, MA.

According to the book - Annals of 10th regiment, Massachusetts volunteers, page 499: Elias Coomes was a thimble maker who was born at Sharon, VT. He enlisted on May 31, 1861 at age twenty-six and was killed at Fair Oaks, VA on May 31, 1862.

Both Elias and James M. Coomes died while serving in the Union Army during the Civil War. Elias' grave is marked by a family brownstone obelisk with the family name COOMES on the base and a carving of a dove and flag on the shaft. Small individual brownstone markers are set next to the obelisk.

One side of the Coomes family obelisk is inscribed:
