The Parish Church, which was built between the 13th and 15th centuries, is large for a small village and dominates the surrounding area with its two towers. The hammer beam roof and wealth of stained glass enhance the majesty of the building and its dimensions are comparable to a major city church. The chancel east window is a gem of Early English architecture with seven stepped lancets.
The church has been lovingly cared for with vestries at the west end of the church, including kitchen facilities, a toilet with disabled facilities and a small meeting room. It featured in Simon Jenkins’ 1000 Best Churches and in the Daily Telegraph 100 favourite churches.
The Friends of St Nicholas is a separate registered charity and exists to improve the church and churchyard by raising funds beyond the means of the PCC. Schemes include illuminating the church roof interior, enhancing the church PA system and establishing a Garden of Rest for the interment of ashes.
