The easternmost German lighthouse Greifswalder Oie has its location at the transition to the open sea area of the Baltic Sea.
The foundation stone was laid on 24 August 1853 by King Friedrich Wilhelm IV of Prussia. The listed in the 21st century, 38.6 -meter-high, octagonal tower was officially taken on October 1, 1855 in operation. He is in 2018 with 26 nautical miles (about 50 kilometers) range of the brightest lighthouse in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and has a levorotatory optics with a flashback of 3.8 seconds. The height of the fire is 48.5 meters above sea level.
In the early years, the light was produced with rapeseed oil, from 1885 kerosene lamps were used. In the years 1911-1914 a reconstruction took place, in which a new lantern house of the company Pintsch from Berlin was built with a diameter of 4.5 meters. In the enlarged lantern house a Fresnel lens of the company Weule from Goslar with a focal length of 900 millimeters and a height of 2.8 meters was installed. From 1938 electric headlamps were used with a voltage of 110 V and a power of 2000 watts for light signaling. In 1978, the lighthouse was switched to remote monitoring so that the last lighthouse mechanic left the tower, ending the 120-year history of the lighthouse keeper on the island. In 1994, a further renovation, in which discharge lamps were installed (400 V at 2000 watts). Since spring 2007, the building is open every day in summer for a limited number of tourists.

Der östlichste deutsche Leuchtturm Greifswalder Oie hat seinen Standort am Übergang zum freien Seeraum der Ostsee.
Die Grundsteinlegung erfolgte am 24. August 1853 durch König Friedrich Wilhelm IV. von Preußen. Der im 21. Jahrhundert unter Denkmalschutz stehende, 38,6 Meter hohe, achteckige Turm wurde am 1. Oktober 1855 offiziell in Betrieb genommen. Er ist im Jahr 2018 mit 26 Seemeilen (rund 50 Kilometer) Tragweite der lichtstärkste Leuchtturm Mecklenburg-Vorpommerns und besitzt eine linksdrehende Optik mit einer Blitz-Wiederkehr von 3,8 Sekunden. Die Feuerhöhe liegt 48,5 Meter über dem Meeresspiegel.
In den Anfangsjahren wurde das Licht mit Rapsöl erzeugt, ab 1885 wurden Petroleumlampen dazu verwendet. In den Jahren 1911–1914 erfolgte ein Umbau, bei dem ein neues Laternenhaus der Firma Pintsch aus Berlin mit einem Durchmesser von 4,5 Meter errichtet wurde. In das vergrößerte Laternenhaus wurde eine Fresnel-Linse der Firma Weule aus Goslar mit einer Brennweite von 900 Millimeter und einer Höhe von 2,8 Meter eingebaut. Ab 1938 wurden elektrische Scheinwerferlampen mit einer Spannung von 110 V und einer Leistung von 2000 Watt zur Lichtsignalgebung genutzt. 1978 wurde der Leuchtturm auf eine Fernüberwachung umgestellt, so dass der letzte Leuchtfeuermaschinist den Turm verließ und damit die 120-jährige Geschichte der Leuchtfeuerwärter auf der Insel beendete. 1994 erfolgte eine weitere Sanierung, bei der Entladungslampen eingebaut wurden (400 V bei 2000 Watt). Seit dem Frühjahr 2007 ist das Gebäude im Sommer täglich für eine begrenzte Zahl von Touristen geöffnet.
