The plaque says, "Philip Morse, 1845-1932, started the first major lumber yard in San Diego at this site in 1884 with financing and lumber from Dolbeer and Carson's mill at Eureka, CA. This location served a large pipe where sailing and later, steam vessels unloaded great quantified of lumber for use in San Diego and Imperial Counties. Albert A. Prost, 1888-1968, was the manager at the time of construction. The company moved in 1955 and closed in 1968."
