The Tri-City Fire Department has three stations with a fourth under construction. From their website: "The Tri-City Fire District proudly provides fire protection to over 8000 people living in an 18 square mile area including the communities of Central Heights, Claypool,Six Shooter Canyon, Ice House Canyon and Wheatfields. We also provide Emergency Medical Services protection to all the communities listed above as well as most of Southern Gila County encompassing an area of over 800 square miles." The Tri-City Ambulance service is a part of the organization. The staff are a mix of paid and volunteer fire fighters. Claypool and the surrounding areas are a mix of mining towns with mostly older housing or ranching communities out in the brushy hills. The department handles both urban and range fires.
