Der erste deutsche Raumfahrer, Sigmund Jähn, wurde in Morgenröthe-Rautenkranz, heute ein Ortsteil der Vogtland-Gemeinde Muldenhammer geboren. Aus Anlass seines Weltraumfluges 1978 im Rahmen des Interkosmos-Programms wurde 1979 in der Gemeinde eine Ausstellung des ersten gemeinsamen Kosmosfluges UdSSR–DDR eröffnet. Nach 1990 wurde diese Exposition in eine gesamtdeutsche Raumfahrtausstellung umgewandelt. 2006/2007 erhielt die Ausstellung ein neues Gebäude mit wesentlich mehr Ausstellungsfläche mit einem attraktiven Außengelände inklusive Planetenpark und Raumfahrtspielplatz. Jährlich besuchen zwischen 60.000 und 70.000 Gäste die Ausstellung, deren Beitreiber ein als gemeinnützig anerkannter Verein ist.
Das in enger Zusammenarbeit mit Vertretern des Deutschen Zentrums für Luft- und Raumfahrt und des Deutschen Museums München erarbeitete Ausstellungskonzept beinhaltet vier Schwerpunkte:
Einblicke in die Geschichte der Raumfahrt und Weltraumforschung
Darstellung des Nutzens der Raumfahrt für die Erde
Information über Raumfahrtprojekte, an denen sich Deutschland beteiligt
Würdigung der Leistungen deutscher Forscher, Ingenieure, Wissenschaftler, Kosmonauten und Astronauten

The first German astronaut, Sigmund Jähn, was born in Morgenröthe-Rautenkranz, today a district of the Vogtland community Muldenhammer. On the occasion of his space flight in 1978 as part of the Interkosmos program in 1979 an exhibition of the first joint cosmos flight USSR GDR was opened in the community. After 1990, this exposure was converted into a pan-German space exhibition. In 2006/2007, the exhibition received a new building with significantly more exhibition space with an attractive outdoor area including planetary park and space playground. Every year between 60,000 and 70,000 guests visit the exhibition, whose owner is a non-profit association.
The exhibition concept, which was developed in close cooperation with representatives of the German Aerospace Center and the Deutsches Museum Munich, includes four focal points:
Insights into the history of space travel and space exploration
Illustration of the benefits of space travel for the earth
Information about space projects in which Germany participates
Appreciation of the achievements of German researchers, engineers, scientists, cosmonauts and astronauts
