Heute trifft sich hier die größte selbstständig ev.-luth. Gemeinde Deutschlands zum Gottesdienst. Als Theodor Harms, Bruder und Nachfolger von Ludwig Harms seines Amtes entmachtet wurde, weil er sich nicht mit der vorgeschriebenen neuen Trauformel anfreunden konnte, spalteten sich zwei Dritter der Einwohner von der Landeskirche ab. So entstand 1878 die selbstständige ev.-luth. Gemeinde hier in Hermannsburg."

Today the largest independent Lutheran congregation in Germany meets here for church service. When Theodor Harms, brother and successor of Ludwig Harms, was deprived of his office because he could not make friends with the prescribed new eaves formula, two third of the inhabitants split off from the regional church. Thus in 1878 the independent Lutheran parish was founded here in Hermannsburg."
