This Church was built in 1875 to replace an earlier (Heritage Listed) church, built up the hill, and still visible 'today'. That Church was built in 1853, where the main through-road was at that time.
When the road was realigned to lower down in the valley this Church was planned and built. On the right-hand side of the front entrance is a painted Foundation Stone, with maroon highlighted engraving, which reads:
WESLEYAN METHODIST
CHURCH
This Stone was Laid by
John Carr Esq. M.P.
Feb 6th A.D. 1875
With an almost 'Revival Corinthian' looking front, with a squarish facade that 'covers' part of the hip roof outline, it is hard to put the design of this Church into one box. It has Gothic-arched windows to the sides which are quite different to the two on the front. There was a later addition to the rear of this Church for Sunday School Rooms.
