The standing soldier in uniform has his rifle in his left hand resting on his left shoulder. He has his saddle under his right arm with canteen, and other equipment including a bedroll.

The Indian scout is kneeling in front of him and he is pointing with his left hand. In his right hand he is holding a knife. He has a pistol on his right side. His hair is shoulder length and he has a feather in it.
