This is a traditional single Quilt Art block, located on the side of the residence of Paul and Linda Ross on Main Street in Bloomfield.
When I spotted this and the "Paul's Tryptych piece further back on the property I just had to check them out further. As I was doing so I met the artist herself, Lynn Ross, wife of Paul Ross, owner of the woodshop. We talked at length about the art, and she recounted with pride the history behind this one. While thinking up ideas for a block to add to Prince Edward County's burgeoning collection, she happened to come across her grandmother's fan on her bed...and a block was born!
Sadly, she and her husband are leaving the County for a return to Newfoundland, after some 40 years here. However, the art will stay behind as a continuing reminder :)
Both pieces are easily viewed from the sidewalk. Closer inspection will require occupant permission.
