Located in the Sarofim Picnic Lawn of Discovery Green, a large urban park in downtown Houston, lies the Mist Tree: a stainless steel sculpture/fountain created by Doug Hollis, an artist from San Francisco.
Dug Hollis likes to work with natural phenomena, and in this particular sculpture, he chose water and mist.
The fountain is on at most times of the day, however the "mist" effect only occurs at odd intervals. As best stated by Discovery Green's
webpage: "It is created by eighty nozzles that form a mist cloud in the bowl of the stainless-steel sculpture, while a circular pan creates a rain curtain around the perimeter. The water is re-circulated and filtered, and it automatically shuts off if the wind threatens to scatter too much water."
