The marker, erected courtesy of MGM-Mirage, is one a several located at various boardwalk lookouts over the nearby channel and salt marshes.
Marker text reads:
OSPREY
(Pandion haliaetus)
The large raptor you may see hovering then plunging into the water
feet first is an osprey. Osprey feed almost exclusively on fish andis our only raptor that will plunge feet first into the water after its prey.
The marker goes on to talk about the effects of pollution, and subsequent recovery efforts.
To improve nesting opportunities, MGM-Mirage Inc. has constructed nesting towers. The location of these towers is shown to the right of the marker (see diagram).
