In the age of the Upper Jurassic, 150 million years ago, at least eleven dinosaurs ran across a temporarily flooded sandbank in the present-day Wiehengebirge near Barkhausen, leaving their mark. In the now steeply rising rock wall imprints of herbivorous dinosaurs and a predatory dinosaur (Megalosaurus) can be seen. The dinosaur tracks were discovered in 1921 in this former quarry, today it has become a natural monument, with dinosaur replicas and detailed information boards by TerraVita
