[EN] "The St. Thomas Church is the second central church in the city centre, next to the Nikolai Church. It is 76 meters long. The ship is 50 metres long, 25 metres wide and 18 metres high. The tower is 68 metres high.
Already in the 12th century there was a church in the same place. Between 1492 and 1496 the Romanesque building took on the shape of a late Gothic hall church. She still holds this today. Between 1884 and 1889 the interior of St. Thomas's Church was renovated and has represented the neo-Gothic style ever since. The Mendelssohn portal on the western front dates from this period.
After the unification of the two German states in 1990, St Thomas's Church was completely restored and repaired. The work was largely completed on the 250th anniversary of Johann Sebastian Bach's death on 28 July 2000. The Church of St. Thomas also received its new Bach organ."
