In the commune of Cinq Mars la Pile, in the canton of Chinon, the Saint Médard church is located at number 1 of Place Saint Jean, in the heart of the historic center of Bourg.

Built in the fourth quarter of the 11th century, the church bears the name of the patron saint of the city. According to our sources, the latter would have been called "Saint Medard de la Pile" and would not have assumed the name of "Cinq Mars de la Pile" until the beginning of the 17th century.

The church is of Romanesque architectural style and will be retouched in the 15th and 19th centuries. It is now linked to the parish of Saint Josephine Bakhita and belongs to the Diocese of Tours.

Classified as an Historic Monument since 1915 for its transept, its chevet, its bell tower and its bell, the building reveals a rustic and authentic silhouette, following a cross-shaped plan.

The entrance of the building is a beautiful old wooden door inlaid in four beautiful stones sizes. The square bell-tower, relatively stocky, is at the crossing of the transept and reveals beautiful geminated bays and a massive octagonal arrow inherited from the Middle Ages. Inside the building, a large nave leads to the choir, beautifully barrel vaulted.
