Édifié en tuffeau et calcaire en 1818 / 1820, le théâtre possède une façade avec un rez-de-chaussée massif et un second niveau composé de portes-fenêtres et surmonté d’un élégant fronton de 1930.
La salle « à l’italienne », comme à Namur, a la forme d’un fer à cheval s’ouvrant sur une scène rectangulaire.
La coupole surbaissée avec lustre est ornée d’une très belle toile (1903) qui représente le panthéon de la musique : Apollon, les Muses et des musiciens célèbres, comme le Liégeois Grétry, dont la statue se trouve devant le théâtre royal.
Ce monument a connu une restauration complète et une adaptation aux techniques scéniques et acoustiques modernes de 2010 à 2012.

De “Opéra Royal de Wallonie” (Koninklijke Waalse Opera) of het voormalig Théâtre royal de Liège te Luik is een historisch gebouw in het midden van het centrum van Luik.
Door besluit van koning Willem I der Nederlanden vanuit 1816 werd er een fonds ingericht ter oprichting van een theatergebouw. De architect Auguste Duckers maakte er plannen voor een gebouw in het neoclassicistische stijl met een colonnade uit marmer. Het gebouw is opgericht op een locatie van een oud Dominicanenklooster en bij de bouw werd materiaal gebruikt van twee voormalige kerkgebouwen. Met de opbouw werd in 1818 begonnen.
Het gebouw werd volledig gerenoveerd tussen 2009 en 2012.

Built in tufa and limestone in 1818/1820, the theater has a facade with a massive ground floor and a second level composed of French windows and surmounted by an elegant pediment of 1930.
The "Italian style" room, as in Namur, has the shape of a horseshoe opening on a rectangular stage.
The lowered dome with chandelier is adorned with a very beautiful canvas (1903) which represents the pantheon of music: Apollo, the Muses and famous musicians, like the Liegeois Gretry, whose statue is in front of the royal theater.
This monument has undergone a complete restoration and adaptation to modern scenic and acoustic techniques from 2010 to 2012.
