This slightly battered airplane fuel tank was recovered at Darwin, [from a Japanese plane in WW2].

The bronze plaque beside this less usual item, reads:

"This Drop Tank was released
from a Japanese Zero fighter plane
after the bombing of Darwin during WWII
Found on the outskirts of Darwin."

It is within a 'pool-fenced' enclosure, out the front of the local RSL Hall; along with a 40 mm Bofors Anti-Aircraft Gun. It is unclear what size/volume this drop tank is, but it may have had a 300 litre capacity, giving its plane 2 to 6 hours longer flight depending on speed.
