Swimming Pool - Duncan, OK - WPA Projects on Waymarking.com

In a park area on the west side of Highway 81, south of Beech Street and across the highway from Fuqua Park, this large swimming pool was a WPA project in 1938. An embossed shield in the concrete at the top of the steps leading down to the pool shows 1938.

The pool is shallow at the north with the deeper end and diving board at the south. A granite rock walk area surrounds the pool with a concrete patio area. At the north end, there is a 3 ft. high granite retaining wall.

We have been unable to confirm that the bathhouse on the west side of the pool is also WPA, as listings only mention the pool, however the bathhouse has the distinct Art Deco look of WPA constructed in this time period, and the steps leading down to the bathhouse are marked WPA. The bathhouse has a centered area slightly taller than the wings, with the walls of the north and south extensions curving in toward the entrance. The walls are block with a stucco finish. There are recessed horizontal lines across the front wings every 18 inches, with vent openings in what must be the locker areas.
