This totem pole was carved by Stz'uminus artist John Marston, Nuu-chah-nulth artist Moy Sutherland Jr., and several youth from the Malahat Nation. It was unveiled during an event on October 24, 2017.

The Malahat mountain area is traditionally called "Yos", hence the name. The pole features the Thunderbird, who lives in these lands. On the front of the pole, the Thunderbird is shown carrying salmon. On the back is Sasquatch, who also lives in these lands, looking down on the forest alongside two children. The legend is that Sasquatch kidnapped the two children and they stayed with her in the mountains until they were able to escape by rubbing pitch into the creature's eyes.

The totem pole is located beside a bridge over Shawnigan Creek. This 9-kilometre section of trail, called the Cowichan Valley Trail - Malahat Connector, opened in June 2017. It connects the original portion of the Cowichan Valley Trail in the Cowichan Valley Regional District with the Capital Regional District's Sooke Hills Wilderness Trail.
