Captain Charles Kimball Whitney was originally from Roxbury, MA where he was baptized on March 29, 1808. He of was a member of Company A, Fifty-ninth Regiment N.Y. Volunteers and was mortally wounded at the Battle of Antietam on September 17, 1962 and died two days later. He is buried along with his wife Esther Russell. Their grave is marked by a 3' high headstone with an arched top. The headstone is inscribed:
