"The Stadsschouwburg Amsterdam (City Theater Amsterdam) is a traditional theater on Leidseplein in Amsterdam.

The Stadttheater was originally located on the Keizersgracht, a wooden theater, which was replaced in 1638 by a building by the Dutch architect Jacob van Campen (1595-1657). This burnt down in 1772 and they built a new classicist style on Leidseplein. But on February 20, 1890, the wooden building also went up in flames.
The architects Van Gendt and Springer designed a new theater and designed the façade in the Renaissance style. In 1894, the theater was inaugurated in its present form.
Since baroque opera, ballet and dance performances are also shown, it is also a much frequented place for tourists."
