El Lobanillo - Texas Historical Markers on Waymarking.com

This state historic marker is located along the SH 21 west of Milam. It is co-located with a 1918 DAR Camino Real granite marker.

This state plate marker is unique because it is affixed to a grey granite post with additional text inscribed on it (written by the marker's sponsors?) as follows:

The Barbo-Pifermo-Maximillian Hacienda was the first wayside Inn west of Gaines' Ferry for almost a century.

Marker Number: 11033 Marker Text: In this vicinity was historic Spanish rancho called EL LOBANILLO Pueblo of Gil Ybarbo (1729-1809), where his ill mother and other refugees remained when Spain evacuated colonists from Western Louisiana and East Texas in 1773. Granted 1794 to Juan Ignacio Pifermo, and inherited in early 1800s by John Maximillian (1778?-1866), this is now known as oldest continuously occupied site in East Texas. (1972)
