The Dairy Queen business operates under the International Dairy Queen Inc. umbrella, and under American Dairy Queen Corp. in the U.S. It is a subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway. The individual stores are operated as franchises. The first DQ store opened in Joliet, IL in June 1940 and there are currently 6400 stores worldwide with 4500 of those in the U.S. This includes the Orange Julius locations.

Ask most anyone and they will tell you they absolutely LOVE Dairy Queen. There are some locations which are seasonal and only serve ice cream items, but the majority of the stores also sell fast food items such as hamburgers and hotdogs, and fried chicken meals. They also sell soft serve ice cream, shakes, ice cream cakes and are famous for their ice cream on a stick - the Dilly Bar. My personal favorite is a Butterfinger Blizzard - a cup of ice cream with Butterfinger candy bar mixed in.

The Dairy Queen store in Woodward appears to be rather old and isn't as updated as some of the newer locations, but the food and ice cream was still delicious. A sign on the DQ near my location says that "DQ" is the Oklahoma Stop Sign. Stop in one of them and you won't be disappointed.

Hours of operation vary from store to store. Most are open long hours, seven days a week. The Woodward Dairy Queen, however, is closed on Sundays.
