Arrière-petit-neveu du pape Jean XXII et un petit-neveu du cardinal Bertrand du Pouget , Arnaud Bernard du Pouget ou du Piret, est doyen de Saint-Étienne-de-Tescou (sur demande de son grand-oncle, le cardinal), chanoine de Tours, Metz et Bourges et prébendaire de Lodève.
Il est élu archevêque d'Aix en 1348 et nommé patriarche latin de Constantinople et administrateur apostolique de Montauban en 1361.
Du Pouget est créé cardinal par le pape Urbain V lors du consistoire du 22 septembre 1368 juste avant de mourir.

L'emplacement
C’est en 1338 qu'il jeta les premiers fondements du palais de l'archevêché. Cette demeure archiépiscopale dont l'entrée est surmontée du blason, sera l’hôtel des rois et des empereurs: elle accueillera François 1er en 1516, Charles IX en 1564, Catherine de Médicis en 1579, Louis XIII en 1622, Christine de Suède en 1656, Anne d’Autriche en 1660, les ducs de Bourgogne et de Berry, petits-fils de Louis XIV, en 1701, la duchesse d’Angoulême en 1823 et enfin Louis Napoléon en 1852.

EN Archbishop:
Great-nephew of Pope John XXII and a grandnephew of Cardinal Bertrand du Pouget, Arnaud Bernard du Pouget or Piret, is Dean of Saint-Etienne-de-Tescou (at the request of his grand-uncle, the cardinal), canon of Tours, Metz and Bourges and prebendary of Lodève.
He was elected Archbishop of Aix in 1348 and appointed Latin Patriarch of Constantinople and Apostolic Administrator of Montauban in 1361.
Du Pouget is created cardinal by Pope Urban V during the consistory of September 22, 1368 just before dying.

The location
It is in 1338 that he threw the first foundations of the palace of the archbishop's palace. This archiepiscopal residence whose entrance is surmounted by the coat of arms, will be the hotel of kings and emperors: it will welcome François 1st in 1516, Charles IX in 1564, Catherine de Médicis in 1579, Louis XIII in 1622, Christine of Sweden in 1656 , Anne of Austria in 1660, the Dukes of Burgundy and Berry, grandsons of Louis XIV, in 1701, the Duchess of Angoulême in 1823 and finally Louis Napoleon in 1852.
