S.R.P. Survey Marker 21.5 E - Tempe, AZ - U.S. Benchmarks on Waymarking.com

In terms of elevation, this is the low point of the Salt River Project Canal system. However it is not the end of the canal system. This survey marker is on the dam which diverts water into 5 pumps from which the water is forced up hill to continue flowing to customers further west. At this point early excavations discovered a complex of Hohokam villages from around 800 BC. They also used a canal in the same place for agriculture. This bronze colored metal disk is embedded atop a cement wall. Across the top of the disk is stamped Salt River Project. On the bottom, Surveys 1994. The center has a punch mark within a triangle and above it is 21.5 E and 15 S. It is approximately .53 miles west of the western edge of Rural Road and .45 miles south of the southern edge of Guadalupe Road.
