With this relief, Documenta artist Heinrich Brummack and his son Jakob remember the children killed in the Second World War. Specifically, the commemorative relief refers to the air raid on Osnabrück on November 21st 1944 in which a bomb hit the entrance to the tunnel Schölerberg (district Nahne), in which 91 people had fled. All of them, including 51 children from the nursery school and the Nahne elementary school, were killed. Their names are written on a blackboard under the relief, all in shades of gray. In the attack on the shelter also the famous Osnabrück artist Franz Hecker died. The relief itself refers to a photo that went around the world in the 1940ies. It depicts a woman with her child, waiting in a queue of mothers and children for admission to a shelter at Bahnhof Zoo in Berlin. The relief is placed at a point on the wall of the former Dominican church, where once probably a Kuzifix was installed.
