"Leo R. Tary, 82, of Viola, died Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2002, at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island.

"Services are 2 p.m. Sunday at Dennison Funeral Home, Viola, (formerly Family Funeral Services). Burial is in Viola Cemetery with military rites accorded by Viola American Legion Post 229. Visitation is 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Viola American Legion or Viola United Methodist Church.

"He was born Nov. 23, 1919, in Viola, the son of Harry and Mamie McKinnell Tary. He married Arlene Holdsworth Oct. 7, 1939, in Preemption.

"He had worked for 35 years for J I Case, Rock Island, retiring in 1981 as a general foreman.

"He served in the Navy in the Pacific theater during World War II.

"He was a member of Viola American Legion Post 229 and Viola United Methodist Church.

"He enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family and friends.

"Survivors include his wife, Arlene; daughters and sons-in-law, Janice and Clair Sutton, Brownsburg, Ind., and Connie and Don Hays, Urbana, Ohio; son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Connie Tary, Stillwater, Minn.; grandchildren and spouses, Paul Sutton and Monica Tary, both of Indianapolis, Ind., Noel and Erin Sutton, Franklin, Ind., Christine and Steve Steele, Germany, Amy Klett, Urbana, Craig and Tracy Hays, Covington, Ga., and Nichole and Jamie Sipes, Woodburg, Minn.; nine great-grandchildren; and sister, Betty Dugan, Milan." ~ Obituaries online
