FR L'église paroissiale Notre Dame de Beauvoir à Grambois est un parfait exemple de l'architecture religieuse Provençale.

Notre-Dame de Beauvoir à Grambois apparaît comme l’assemblage massif de divers éléments architecturaux. Elle résulte en effet d’adjonctions d’éléments que les événements, au cours des siècles, ont rendu nécessaires.

C’est en tant que chapelle d’un prieuré ressortissant à l’abbaye bénédictine de Saint-André de Villeneuve-lès-Avignon que Notre-Dame de Beauvoir est citée pour la première fois dans une chronique de 1096. La petite église romane qu’elle était alors, se révèle insuffisante au XIVe siècle puis au XVIe siècle pour accueillir le nombre toujours croissant de Gramboisiens.

Sa nef est donc allongée, les cloisons des chapelles sont supprimées, une travée supplémentaire est aménagée et, ainsi agrandie, c’est une véritable église qui est fortifiée en 1560 lors des travaux de réfection des remparts sur lesquels elle s’appuie. Son chœur est alors surmonté d’une salle faisant office de poste d’observation et de défense.

Elle est enfin dotée d’une sacristie et de trois chapelles au cours de la seconde moitié du XVIIe siècle.

C’est l’état dans lequel nous pouvons la voir actuellement, sachant que les importantes réparations qui ont suivi le tremblement de terre de 1709 n’ont pas plus modifié sa structure que les dernières restaurations de 2008.
EN The parish church Notre Dame de Beauvoir in Grambois is a perfect example of Provençal religious architecture.

Our Lady of Beauvoir in Grambois appears as a massive assemblage of various architectural elements. It results in fact from additions of elements that events, over the centuries, have made necessary.

It is as a chapel of a priory belonging to the Benedictine abbey of Saint-André of Villeneuve-lès-Avignon that Notre-Dame de Beauvoir is quoted for the first time in a chronicle of 1096. The small Romanesque church that it was then, is insufficient in the fourteenth century and the sixteenth century to accommodate the ever increasing number of Grambois.

Its nave is lengthened, the partitions of the chapels are removed, an additional bay is arranged and, thus enlarged, it is a real church which is fortified in 1560 during the works of repair of the ramparts on which it leans. His choir is then surmounted by a room acting as a post of observation and defense.

It is finally endowed with a sacristy and three chapels during the second half of the 17th century.

This is the state in which we can see it now, knowing that the important repairs that followed the 1709 earthquake did not change its structure any more than the last restorations of 2008.
