As described by the National Ocean Survey ("NOS") back in 1982:
"THE STATION IS A NOS ALUMINUM DISK STAMPED---BAY HARBOR 1982---, AFFIXED TO THE TOP OF A 1.1 METER ALUMINUM ROD EMBEDED IN CONCRETE AND PROJECTING 4 INCHES. IT IS LOCATED, 18.44 METERS (60.5 FT.) NORTHWEST FROM CENTERLINE OF FM 3005, 7.13 METERS (23.4 FT.) SOUTHWEST FROM THE CENTER OF 4TH STREET, 0.76 METERS (2.5 FT.) SOUTHWEST FROM A 6 INCH WOODEN POST WITH WITNESS SIGN"
Save for the mention of the witness post (which is no longer there, currently replaced with a temporary wooden post which is flush with the station in question), the NOS description is still quite accurate and should definitely assist future seekers in finding this benchmark -- alternatively, one can use the gallery images for any future attempt at actual recovery.
Note: you will probably have to dig and remove about 1-2" of dirt (since the station is now 6" below the ground), but once most of the dirt is removed you will be able to get some decent pictures to complete the recovery effort.
The station was recovered in good condition. Likewise, the NGS online database's currently posted coordinates were reasonably in line with my observations, as measured within 10' accuracy and 10+ reading averages.
