Der Mangturm, mit einer Höhe von 20m gehört zu den älteren Leuchttürmen am Bodensee. Der Mangturm war von 1180 bis 1300 als Leuchtturm in BetriebDer Name leitet sich vom ehemals nahen Tuch- und Manghaus ab, so hießen im Mittelalter die Lagerhäuser der Tuchmacher-Zunft.

Der Mangturm mit seinem spitzen bunt glasierten Ziegelhelm aus dem 19. Jahrhundert liegt an der Seepromenade des Hafens und war bis ins 19. Jahrhundert nur über eine Zugbrücke zu erreichen. Auf einer Steintafel neben dem Eingang am Turm ist zu lesen:

Dieser Turm
der Mangenturm genannt
ward im XII. Jahrhundert erbaut
zu Leuchte, Schutz und Trutz
unseres Seehafens;
ein kräftig Wahrzeichen
der ehemaligen
freien Reichsstadt Lindau.

Als 1856 Lindaus neuer Leuchtturm fertiggestellt wurde, verlor der Mangturm seine Funktion als Signal- und Beobachtungsposten. Heute wird er als Märchenturm benutzt und es finden dort Märchenstunden statt. Deswegen sieht man auch oft (wie im Märchen von Rapunzel) einen dicken Zopf aus einem der Fenster heraushängen.

When in 1856 Lindau's new lighthouse was completed, the Mangturm lost its function as a signaling and observing post. Today it is used as a fairy tale tower and fairytale hours take place there. This is why, as in the fairy tale of Rapunzel, one can often see a thick plait hanging from one of the windows.
