The fountain is located in the very center of the Prato della Valle in Padova - the largest square in Italy, and one of the largest in Europe. Prato della Valle used to be a marsh within the city. It was reshaped in the XVIIIth century. It is now a huge square, used for markets, concerts, sport events. This is the canal with the shape of an oval.The fountain in its veru center has basin of elliptical basin duplicating shape of the square. The fountain with a number of jets in its center was inagurated in 1926.
