An electric car charging station is located in a convenient spot in Turangi at the northern end of the Desert Road across the Central Plateau region in the Central North Island. To use this ChargeNet NZ facility it is best to approach from the Z Service Station entrance and drive through the Service Station to the exit on Pihanga Street where you will see the Charger station with two special available parking spaces right beside the exit into Pihanga Street where you can then drive quickly back on to SH1 at the crossroads.
