This particular site was erected around 1800 and was the second one in the town. The first one was in the middle of town. The last beheading here was in 28 August, 1818, when they removed Gertrude Pfeiflin, a thief and murderess. All the schoolchildren were required to attend as a lesson against crime.
The original block is gone, though the stone foundation remains. The town installed a metal sword attached to a tree stump to represent the original method.
