"On November 28, 1919, the company Dragor in Le Mans (72) was created by a certain Henri LEGOU. Between 1923 and 1959, a new type of pump was built, which was not a rosary, as we had long believed , but with buckets. The mechanism of these artifacts, easily recognizable by their lion's head, which decorates the disgorging, makes it possible to reach the water table at a greater depth than the conventional pumps (20 meters and more). headquarters of the company Dragor and Alma is located at 3 of avenue Jean-Jaurès in Le Mans until 1959 or we lose track of it.
It would seem that the 1930s were the climax for the manufacture of Dragor pumps. We find, for example, in the commune of Saint-Gondon (45) a beautiful model of 1931 still existing which seems to confirm by the patina of its metal the veracity of this date found on the writings. It should also be noted that the crank system (with perhaps a complementary wheel on the opposite side) is judicious and allows a child to pump without hurting, unlike hand pumps where, in addition, a certain physical strength was required. The lion's head also allowed to hang a bucket during the pumping, perhaps avoiding any splashes. "
