This stairways is placed in the district Irlich in Neuwied. It is connecting the place, where a small pond was once placed with the church. This connection gave the stairways the name "Kirchentreppe" (church-stairway). The district Irlich is divided into the lower-village, where the pond was and the upper-village where the church is placed since the 19th century. This stairway is a heavily used connection between these two parts because is more comfortable (and shorter) to use than the pedestrian path at the street nearby.
