A plaque at the site reads: "This schoolhouse was built in 1927 by homesteaders using volunteer labor, and financed by donations. It also served as a community center for residents of the Morongo Basin. In 1992, the Twentynine Palms historical society moved the building to this site, and refurbished it to serve as its museum."
