The convent was established in 1211. The current appearance of the convent building dates from the reconstruction work realised in the mid 16th century and at the beginning of the 19th century. The most significant part is the convent library which includes a number of ceiling frescos and over 15 thousand volumes. The Convent Church of St. Peter and St. Paul is decorated with frescos by Jan Lukáš Hacker and it has been filled with artistically valuable furnishings. The convent building houses an exhibition dedicated to the lives and works of the personalities associated with the municipality of Nová Ríše.

Puvodne ženský klášter založil vojenský velitel Markvard z Hrádku roku 1211. Behem husitských válek byl zpustošen a i pres snahy o zachování rádu, v roce 1597 komunita vymrela. O rok pozdeji do kláštera prišli dva mniši premonstráti a v následujících letech zacala prestavba kláštera a jeho kulturní vzestup.
Rozvoj ukoncil rozsáhlý požár v roce 1813. V roce 1942 zde vzniklo sídlo Hitlerjugend a od roku 1950 vojenské skladište.
Dnes je opet plne v rukou premonstrátu a pro návštevu si mužete vybrat z nekolika prohlídkových okruhu, které vás zavedou do opatského kostela sv. Petra a Pavla s nádhernou vnitrní výzdobou, kaple sv. Anny, rozsáhlé knihovny, hudebního sálu, prelatury nebo síne osobností.
