While the Sale Swing Bridge operated for about 50 years, from 1883, before the decline of river traffic allowed it to then remain 'fixed', it had been working well as a fixed wooden deck bridge.

Having been Opened on 22 September, 1883, this plaque was placed to commemorate 100 years of continued usage. It is on the 'outside' of the brick abutment on the southern end of the bridge, on the western side, facing the Aboriginal Bark Canoe.
The plaque reads:
