Over 50 guitars are located in the Guitar Gallery: The Quest for Volume within the Museum of Pop Culture. One of them is a 1962 Gibson SG Standard guitar. A nearby placard reads:

Gibson revamps their tried-and-true Les Paul, producing another winner

The SG began life as an effort to update Gibson's most esteemed solid-body guitar. But after a falling-out with their collaborator, guitarist Les Paul, the new model became commonly known as an "SG."

Some guitarists, though, were so enthralled by the SG's ultrafast neck, light weight and wonderful tone that they started calling it the "Super Gibson."
